Henry I was born about September 1068 in Selby, Yorkshire, Eng..1 Henry I's father was King of England WILLIAM I the CONQUEROR and his mother was Matilda of FLANDERS. His paternal grandparents were Duke of Normandy 6th Robert I the Devil of Normandy and Herleva (Arlette) Officer of the Household; his maternal grandparents were the Pious Baldwin V Flanders Count of Flanders and Adela (Alix) CAPET Princess of France. He was an only child. He died on December 1st, 1135 in St. Denis-le-Fermont, Near Gisors.1 General Notes
Reigned 1100-1135. Duke of Normandy 1106-1135.
His reign is notable for important legal and administrative reforms,and for the final resolution of the investiture controversy. Abroad,he waged several campaigns in order to consolidate and expand hiscontinental possessions. Was so hated by his brothers that they vowedto disinherit him. In 1106 he captured Robert and held him til hedied. He proved to be a hard but just ruler. He apparently died fromovereating lampreys.
