Geoffrey V The Fair was born on August 24th, 1113. Geoffrey V The Fair's father was FULK V the younger of ANJOU and his mother was Erembourg DE BEAUGENCY. His paternal grandparents were FULK IV the Rude of ANJOU and Bertrada de MONTFORT; his maternal grandparents were Helias of MAINE, Count of Maine and Agnes of Aquitaine. He was an only child. He died at the age of 38 on September 7th, 1151 in CHATEAU-du-LOIR, FRANCE.1 General Notes
Other sources (Burke) say the marriage was apr. 3, 1127. The namePlantagenet, according to Rapin, came from when Fulk the Great beingstung from remorse for some wicked action, in order to atone for it,went on a pilgrammage to Jerusalem, and was scourged before the HolySepulchre with broom twigs. Earlier authorities say it was because ofthis that Geoffrey bore a branch of yellow broom (Planta-genistae) inhis helm.
