Sgt. Josias (Josiah) ELLSWORTH 
Josias (Josiah) was born on August 7th, 1629 in Cambridgeshire, Eng..1 Josias (Josiah)'s father was John ELLSWORTH and his mother was Lucia BOWER. His paternal grandparents were David ELLSWORTH and Mrs. David ELLSWORTH. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Theophilus, Christopher, Jerimiah, Joseph, Josias, Arthur, Richard, Ann, Jemima and Elenore. He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 60 on August 20th, 1689 in Windsor, Hartford, CT.1 General Notes
He came to America in 1645 at 17 yrs of age. and settled in Windsorthe next year. Made freeman by court order on May 21, 1657. He boughtthe property called Elmwood which is now owned by the Conn. D.A.R. inWindsor in 1665. It is open to the public and has much of theoriginal furniture. This house was the home of Oliver Ellsworth, thethird Chief Justice of the U.S.
