Early, both men were weavers.

Both Edmunds lived in Little Darwen, in 1837 one a weaver and the other a husbandman.
On the 27 May 1739, both Edmunds had their daughters baptised (Ann and Mary) at Blackburn. Neighbor: John and Henry, sons of Edmund and Giles, both of Lower Darwen, were baptised on the same day. Work with: In 1764 Robert Peel joined his brother-in-law Jonathan Haworth and established the famous firm of Haworth, Peel, and Yates, the first Lancashire Calico Printers. The deed of partnership was dated 1770.
Relative of: Sisters and co-heirs of Henry Crosse of Lower Darwen Funding of: Thomas Haworth's Will, dated 13 April 1677 and proved at Chester, names his wife, Grace, his eldest son and heir Thomas, and his three younger sons, Richard, James, and John. Relative of: Peter was the "great nephew of Peter Haworth, of Thurcroft", but in this tree he is a grandson. Other: Both parents (Ann and Ellin) Howarh had all their baptised children listed together on family record (first page) at Walmsley Chapel Relative of: John is NOT the son of this Giles, as Giles the Inn Holder died in 1780.
There must be another Giles Haworth born about 1700 to 1708. Know each other: Andrew Howarth (1721-?) of Turton, was the son of Ralph Howarth and Grace Aspinal whom married May 1817.
This must be the son of another Ralph Howarth as Ralph and Alice of Turton had a daughter Dorothy in 1722. Relative of: Possible relative and DNA match to Paul Mather 1741 - 1818 Ellen Howarth 77 77 Ellen Howarth (or Haworth) possibly has a sister Hannah who married James Mather in 1762, the same year Ellen married Peter, as James Mather was witness to their mariage. 1744 Hannah Howarth ~1715 John Howarth John was married to Mary (see baptism records of children).  Another John Howarth of Wittlo was married to Ellien and she was buried 17 June 1751. ~1715 Mary Howarth 1745 - 1745 Ellen Howarth 5m 5m 1746 George Howarth 1737 Thomas Howarth 1741 John Howarth 1708 George Howarth George, son of Peter of Samlesbury (between Blackburn and Preston) ~1710 Ellen Greenhalgh 1743 - ~1745 Ann Howarth 2 2 This Ann Howarth, born 1743 must have died as an infant, as another Ann was baptised a few years later in 1748. 1739 Thomas Howarth ~1735 - 1740 Elizabeth Howarth 5 5 1733 Elis Howarth 1740 Richard Howarth 1738 Elizabeth Howarth 1713 John Howarth A Yeoman of Turton Hannah 1743 - 1774 Robert Howarth 31 31 1687 Ralph Howarth ~1690 Alice Smethurst 1715 Mary Howarth 1721 Andrew Howarth Andrew Howarth of Turton, born 1721 was the son of Ralph  Howarth and Grace Aspinal whom married May 1817.
1748 Ann Howarth 1692 Edmund Howarth The "Howarths of Thurcroft" and other articles have Edmund marrying Ann.  However, it seems they had their Edminds mixed up and this Edmund married Catherine.  Baptism records show it was a 10y younger Edmund, son of Giles that married Ann in 1721 (and had sons Edmund and Giles).

6 Jan 1714, this Edmund married Catherine Pickering.

1735, Edmund is shown a Yeoman on Alice's burial and when Jane was baptised in 1736, and also later, a husbandman.

3 May 1737, Edmund Haworth of Lower Darwen married Margaret Wigglesworth of Pleasington after publication (of Banns).
~1700 Margaret Wigglesworth 1741 Edward Howarth Nn DNA matched found. 1736 Jane Howarth 1739 Mary Howarth 1693 Catherine Pickering Catherine, daughter of William of Upper Darwen may have been young (i.e. aged only 10 to 12) when she married Edmund in 1714.  This marriage occured before the modern-day marriage acts of 1694 and 1735 and later, so possible but unliokely.

Catherine the daughter of Thomas of Lower Darwen, baptised 1693 is more likely.
1732 - 1736 Alice Howarth 3 3 1739 - 1741 Ann Howarth 1 1 Most records record "Ann" (not Anne).

This may be Ann, the daughter of Edmund of Lower Darwen, baptised 27 May 1739, a husbandman.  Ann died in 1741, daughter of Edmund, Yeoman.
~1792 Richard Howarth ~1795 Betty Cunliffe In 1813 Richard Mather married Betty Cunliffe with consent of parents, so Betty (or possibly Richard) are under age and born after 1793
1842 - 1921 Elizabeth Howarth 78 78 Believed to be daughter of John Howarth and Ellen Monks.

In 1851, Ellen was aged 4, born Lostock. Her parents were John Howarth (46), a coal miner and Ellen (40), both from Westhoughton. She was one of 7 daughters (including a Pemelia, her closest younger sister who she later named her first daughter after).  They were living at Astley Bridge, Sharples.

Elizabeth Howarth Booth died in Provo, Utah, aged 79.
1664 - <1719 John Howarth 55 55 John Howarth was living 18 Nov 1701, dead before 2 Feb 1719.  He was no doubt possessed of a proportionate share of the almsley Tennement.

John was the father of Edmund who married Ann of Walmsley Fold.
1636 - 1694 Richard Howarth 58 58 There was a baptism for Richard son of Peter in April 1632.  This Richard must have died, as another baptism for Richard followed, 5 Nov 1636.

Richard was the second son of Peter Howarth of Blackburn  and (with James) was one on the executors of his father's Will.

At Richard's death in 1694 is property was divided between his sons Thomas and John.  This included a property called "The Hill" in Lower Darwen.
1642 - 1680 Ellen 38 38 Ellen was the first wife of Richard Howarth 1723 - 1795 Robert Peel 72 72 Robert Peel and his father William Peel were both Yeoman.

In Aug, 1744, Robert Peel of Oswaldtwistle & Elizabeth Howarth of Lower Darwen by Licence granted by W'm Bunter

In 1764 Robert joined his brother-in-law Jonathan Haworth and established the famous firm of Haworth, Peel, and Yates, the first Lancashire Calico Printers. The deed of partnership was dated 1770.

Robert became a wealthy man, curate of Blackburn, and had two sons Sir Robert Peel the industralist and Nicholas Peel, that took holy orders.  He was the grandfather of Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850), born in Bury. who was the Prime Minister of the UK 1834-35 and again in 1841-46.
1691 Elizabeth Howarth Elizabeth Haworth married John Peel, and were the grandparents of the Right Honerable Sir Robert Peel, Bart., MP. ~1600 - 1677 Peter Howarth 77 77 Peter Howarth of Lower Darwen and Grace married in 1615, yet their oldest son and heir was Thomas born 1634.  They must have had several infant deaths (some we know were baptised).  Their senond son and heir was Richard.

Peter Haworth was a Governor of the Grammar School at Blackburn in 1647 (and great nephew of Peter Haworth, of Thurcroft, who died in 1600,

Peter probably had a brother James, living in Lower Darwen in 1636

Peter died in 1677 in "possessed of landed property in Lower Darwen and elsewhere, which had descended to him by lawful succession or grant from his father, Thomas Haworth". His Will, dated 13 April 1677, was proved at Chester, 30 May. In it the testator names his wife, Grace, his eldest son and heir Thomas, and his three younger sons, Richard, James, and John.  Richard and James, the second and third sons, were his executors, and he appointed William Yates, of Blackburn, Gent. his overseer.
~1600 Grace Crosse Grace was daughter an co-heir of Henry Crosse of Okenhead in Lower Darwen (by Alice, daughter and co-heir of John Lomas), and by this marriage a moiety of the Okenhead estate occured to the Howarths. ~1664 - 1741 Ann Howard 77 77 8 Feb 1684, Ann Howard (or Hanworth), both of Blackburn, married John Howarth at Chatburn. 1702 Edmund Howarth This is Edmund the weaver (not husbandman) of Lower Darwen, revealed by son Edmond's birth.

Therre are several children Edmund and Ann baptised at Middleton.   This is another Edmund (1694-1743) and Ann family. Edmund born Oldham.

6 Feb 1721, Edmund Howarth of Bury parish married Anne Styfaker of Langley and they had a daughter Betty baptised 15 months later, but mother named Jennet.

By 1725, Edmund of Walmsley Fold had become in posession of the property left to his father (i.e. The Hill), a leashold estate for the term of three lives.

By 1744 when his daughter famously married Robet Peel, father of Sir Robet Peel (and grandfather Sir Robert Peel the British Prime Minister), he had property so could be described as a gentleman.
1634 - 1693 Thomas Howarth 59 59 The eldest son and heir, Thomas Haworth, of Lower Darwen, succeeded his father, and died in the year 1693, leaving issue a son, Peter, and two daughters, Elizabeth, wife of her kinsman, Richard Haworth, of Thurcroft, Gent. and Hannah, wife of Thomas Critchley, of Livesey.

He married Elizabeth who survived Thomas.  They had Peter, Elizabeth and Hannah.  The only marriage found to Elizabeth is 11 Dec 1688  to Eliz Osbuston at Manchester.

Thomas died about 1693.  Will dated 24 Nov 1693 and proved at Chester 6 Dec 1693.
1658 - 1699 Thomas Howarth 41 41 1672 - 1739 Giles Howarth 67 67 WARNING: There is another Giles Haworth of Eccleshill who had a son Giles in Dec 1709 and Edmund (of Low Ecclehill in Oct 1710.

Giles Howarth of Lower Darwen was a Webster (weaver) when his first 3 sons were baptised.

29 June 1699, Giles married Mary Yates.  They had at least 9 sons, but no daughters!

Another Giles Howarth, son of Giles Howarth of Newfield (????-1590) was a murderer and outlawed (see Darwen and its People, Book)

29 June 1699, Giles Haworth and Mary Yates, both of Lower Darwen, were married at Blackburn.

In November 1739, wife Mary of Lower Darwen died. Giles survived another 18 months, dying June 1739, a husbandman.
~1650 Edmund Howarth Edmund was a popular Blackburn Howarth name.  There are 192 baptism records for son of Edmund Howarth, many duplicated. <unknown> 1672 Lawrence Howarth 1635 - 1698 Ralph Haworth 63 63 Raph Haworth, baptised 5 Apr 1635 was the son of Nicholas Haworth.

Ralph's father Nicholas is likely descened from (grandfather?) Nycholas Haworthe who died 18 Dec 1697, one of the governers of Blackburn Grammar School, who had sons Peter and Richard.
<unknown> 1660 Alice Howarth 1641 Lawrence Howarth Lawrence, son of Peter baptised at Bolton, so may be of another family. <unknown> 1687 Robert Howarth 1689 Mary Howarth 1696 Anne WARNING: There is another Edmund husbandman & Anne family from Mirebrook, Middleton.
1722 - 1796 Elizabeth (Betty) Howarth 73 73 March 1722, Betty was baptised, daughter of Edmund and Jennete (i.e. not Anne).  Either Betty was an illegitimate daughter or Jennette and Ann are the same person.

In Aug, 1744, Robert Peel of Oswaldtwistle & Elizabeth Howarth of Lower Darwen were married by Licence granted by W'm Bunter
~1640 - >1677 John Howarth 37 37 ~1640 - >1677 James Howarth 37 37 Richard and James, the second and third sons, were their father's executors, 1723 William Howarth 1721 - <1735 Ann Howarth 14 14 1718 Thomas Howarth 1715 John Howarth ~1679 - 1737 Mary Yates 58 58 29 June 1699, Giles Haworth and Mary Yates, both of Lower Darwen, were married at Blackburn. 1715 Henry Howarth 1731 - 1732 Lawrence Howarth 10m 10m 1732 - 1786 Jonathan Howarth 54 54 The John born 1736, was baptised son of Henry, not Edmund as sometimes reported.  Jonathan, son of Edmund and Ann was baptised in 1732.

In 1762, Jonathan married Mary Pilling (1740-1819) the eldest daughter of John Pilling of Sissclough in Newchurch-in-Rossendale.

Jonathan Haworth (1736-86) at some stage purchased the old seat of the Haworths at Highercroft in Lower Darwen and in 1762 he was elected a Governor of Blackburn Grammar School in 1762.
1727 - 1759 Edmund Howarth 31 31 Dec 1727, Edmund was baptised son of Edmund and Ann

Edmund, Chapman may have died in 1759.  He may have been the weaver that married Mary Taylor in 1760 at Bury.
1730 - 1759 Giles Howarth 29 29 Giles (1730-59), had no male issue.  ~1634 Elizabeth Osbuston ~1660 - 1698 Peter Howarth 38 38 Peter Haworth, of Lower Darwen, the only son and heir of Thomas, died in 1699, leaving two sons, Thomas and John, and a daughter, Elizabeth.

Peter Haworth, by his Will, dated 28 Oct. 1698, devised all his lands in Lower Darwen, Witton, Mellor, and Piccope Bank (subject to a charge of £200 for the benefit of his daughter, Elizabeth, afterwards Mrs. Feilden), to his two sons, Thomas and John, the former of whom appears to have been a Governor of the Blackburn Grammar School in 1731.

Will dated 28 Oct 1698, proved at Chester
Alice Ainsworth Alice Ainsworth was the sister of Thomas Ainsworth of Thurcroft. 1637 Ellen Howarth 1626 - ~1627 Thomas Howarth 1 1 1663 Joseph Howarth 1664 Margaret Howarth 1662 Ann Howarth 1656 Jenet Howarth 1661 - 1733 Ralph Howarth 71 71 1665 Jane Howarth 1654 Abraham Howarth 1666 Elizabeth Howarth Elizabeth married Richard Howarth of Thurcroft, a Gentleman.  Fortune: £300 (left to her by her father).

In 1699, Elizabeth Howarth of Lower Darwen (no father named) has a son William, baptised 3 Oct 1699.
1662 Hannah Howarth Hannah married Thomas Critchley of Livesey.  Fortune £300. D. 1684 Thomas Howarth Thomas Haworth of Okenhead in Lower Darwen, second son of Lawrence, married brother Peter's wife's sister Elizabeth, daughter and co-heir of Henry Crosse of Lower Darwen.  She died childless.

"Mr Thomas Haworth of Okenhead" was buried Sep 22 1684, dying at an advanced age.  In his Will dated 1684, Thomas Haworth of Lower Darwen, gent, names his (second) wife Jennet (daughter of W'm Walmsley of Tockholes), to whom he left £200.
D. 1618 Lawrence Howarth The Subsidy Roll of 1523 names three Howareth Heads in Lower Darwen: Edmund, Peter and Richard Howarth
in Lower Darwen. Also William and Richard Howarth in Blackburn Township.  Richard was the original govener of Blackburn Grammar School.  Lawrence is said to descend from this family.

Lawrence Howarth "is said to be the son of Haworth of Haworth".  About 1585, Lawrence Haworthe of Nether Darwyn," gave to the Parish Subscription to augment the Grammar School Endowment 20s."

Lawrence Howarth of Th'urcroft, gent., married Alice, daughter of Robert Holden of Pickup Bank and had issue, sons Peter; Thomas and Richard; also daughters Elizabeth, b.1601 and Jenita b.1603.
~1560 Alice Holden Alice was the daughter of Robert Holden of Pickup Bank, son of Ralph Holden of Holdens, gent. ~1592 Peares (Peter) Howarth Peter Haworth of Th'uncroft, gent, son of Lawrence, was said to be over 26 years of age at his fasthers decease, so must have been born about 1592, but Dugdale has it that he was aged 77 in 1774. Richard Howarth 1601 Elizabeth Howarth 1603 Jenita Howarth ~1950 Jennet Livesey Jennet was the daughter of John Livesey of Sidebright in Rishton.

Peter and Jennet, sons Lawrance, their heir; and Richard and Thomas, whio both died without issue.
Richard Howarth Thomas Howarth 1623 - <1641 Lawrence Howarth 18 18 Son Lawrence, bap 12 Oct 1623.

Lawrence must have died young (or not belong here), and Peter Howarth's Will of 1677 names Thomas as his oldest son and heir.
1616 Alice Howarth Elizabeth Crosse Thomas Haworth of Okenhead in Lower Darwen, second son of Lawrence, married brother Peter's wife's sister Elizabeth, daughter and co-heir of Henry Crosse of Lower Darwen.  She died childless. 1735 - 1735 Ann Howarth 1744 - 1786 Ann Howarth 42 42 Possibly Ann Howarth from Lower Darwen - Just a theory. ~1691 Thomas Howarth Thomas and John were left property in Lower Darwen, Witton, Mellor, and Piccope Bank in their father's Will dated 28 Oct 1698. 1697 John Howarth Thomas (eldest son and heir) and John were left property in Lower Darwen, Witton, Mellor, and Piccope Bank in their father's Will dated 28 Oct 1698.

In 1731,  John appears to have been Govener of Blackburn Grammar School.
1694 Elizabeth Howarth 20 Sept 1720, Elizabeth married Robert Feilden, of Manchester, Gent., great uncle of the late Sir William Feilden, Bart., of Feniscowles, but had no issue. They were married at St Mary,  Blackburn by licence, both of the parish of Blackburn.

Mrs Elizabeth Fielden was left £200 in her father's Will.
~1690 - 1752 Robert Felden 62 62 "Elizabeth, married 20 Sept. 1720, to Robert Feilden, of Manchester, Gent, great uncle of the late Sir William Feilden, Bart., of Feniscowles, but had no issue". 1703 James Howarth 1705 Thomas Howarth 1700 Richard Howarth 1709 John Howarth 1711 Joseph Howarth Joseph & Banjamin must be twins, baptisd together 9th March 1711, son of Giles of Lower Darwen. 1711 Benjamin Howarth Joseph & Banjamin must be twins, baptisd together 9th March 1711, son of Giles of Lower Darwen. 1717 Gyles Howarth 7 May 1738, Giles Howarth of Lower Darwen married Alice Pomfrett.  They had two daughters Mary and Grace.

Did wife Alice die and Giles remarry?  It seems likely with dates of marriages and births. However, Alices's death is not indexed, and Giles must have moved to Lower Harwood     (near Blackburn), so it could be another Giles.

27 Jan 1742, Giles Howarth of Lower Harwood and Dorothy Richardson of Blackburn were married at Blackburn.  They had twin daughters the following year.
1722 John Howarth John son of Giles and Betty Howarth of Blackburn, Inkeeper was baptised 1722. Giles Haworth of Blackburn, Innkeeper died in June 1780 (see probate), so cant be son of our Giles unless he lived to 101 !

I cant find a marriage for a Giles and Betty or Elizabeth.  Perhaps Mary had died and Giles retired from Lower Darwen to become an Inn Keeper, or more likely be another Giles. There is no death record for Giles's first son John!
1722 Dorothy Howarth 1724 Betty Haworth ~1850 Edward Haworth Son of John (1817-1878) and Alice (1813-1879) Howarth of Lower Darwen.  John is the Grandson of Giles Haworth (O1751-1815) ~1720 Dorothy Richardson 1738 - 1741 Mary Howarth 3 3 1743 Margaret Howarth 1743 Mary Howarth 1740 Grace Howarth 1749 Henry Howarth 1746 Richard Howarth ~1720 - ~1740 Alice Pomfret 20 20 Pomfrette (or Pomfret) 1678 Alice Howarth 1694 - 1744 Edmund Howarth 50 50 1702 Ann Staveacre

In 1841, John and Ellen (25 & 30) were at Chew Moore, Westhoughton with Adam (14), Ann (12), Alice (4) and Martha (1).  John's age is 10 years out and should be about 35.

Adam born 1770 was alive in 1841, aged 70 and died in 1858 aged 78.

There is a third Adam of Astley, baptised at Leigh 26 Aug  1769 and he was the son of William (matching Adam's first son).
