Thomas was born in October 1705 in Lower Darwen and his baptism took place on October 28th, 1705 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Blackburn).1  Thomas' father was Giles Howarth and his mother was Mary Yates.  His paternal grandparents were Edmund Howarth and <unknown>. He had eight brothers named Richard, Edmund, James, John, Joseph, Benjamin, Henry and Gyles.
