Mary was born in 1741 in Mirebrook and her baptism took place on March 15th, 1741 at St. Leonard (Middleton).1  Mary's father was Edmund Howarth and her mother was Ann Staveacre. She had five brothers and a sister, named James, William, Edmund, Robert, John and Alice.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
