Alice was born in 1729 in Mirebrook and her baptism took place on February 18th, 1730 at St. Leonard (Middleton).1  Alice's father was Edmund Howarth and her mother was Ann Staveacre. She had five brothers and a sister, named James, William, Edmund, Robert, John and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
