Robert was born in 1735 in Mirebrook and his baptism took place on November 23rd, 1735 at St. Leonard (Middleton).1  Robert's father was Edmund Howarth and his mother was Ann Staveacre. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James, William, Edmund, John, Alice and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.
