William was born in 1725 in Mirebrook and his baptism took place on February 6th, 1725 at St. Leonard (Middleton).1  William's father was Edmund Howarth and his mother was Ann Staveacre. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James, Edmund, Robert, John, Alice and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
