Jonathan Howarth

Jonathan was born in 1732 in Lower Darwen and his baptism took place on February 4th, 1732 in Blackburn.¹

- Jonathan was not baptised in 1736. That was another, son of Henry and Ann. There was a Jonathan Howarth of Healey, baprised in Rochdale 11 Apr 1736, but he was the son of Thomas a weaver and Alice.

Jonathan's father was Edmund Howarth and his mother was Anne. His paternal grandparents were Giles Howarth and Mary Yates. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Edmund, Giles, Ann and Ann. He had an adopted sister named Betty. He died at the age of 54 in 1786.

- The John born 1736, was baptised son of Henry, not Edmund as sometimes reported. Jonathan, son of Edmund and Ann was baptised in 1732.
  
  In 1762, Jonathan married Mary Pilling (1740-1819) the eldest daughter of John Pilling of Sissclough in Newchurch-in-Rossendale.
  
  Jonathan Haworth (1736-86) at some stage purchased the old seat of the Haworths at Highercroft in Lower Darwen and in 1762 he was elected a Governor of Blackburn Grammar School in 1762.

    - In 1764 Robert Peel joined his brother-in-law Jonathan Haworth and established the famous firm of Haworth, Peel, and Yates, the first Lancashire Calico Printers. The deed of partnership was dated 1770.
