PLEASE NOTE: If you do not see a GRAPHIC IMAGE of a family tree here but are seeing this text instead then it is most probably because the web server is not correctly configured to serve svg pages correctly. see http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/SVG:Server_Configuration for information on how to correctly configure a web server for svg files. ? There is another John and Alice Booth family from Middleton. They had Martha (1804), James (1806), Robert (1810+1811), George (1813) Wrong Nanny Mather DNA links to Paul Mather but not descended from Nanny Mather Possible Marriages for Nanny Mather are Samuel Kay (Bolton 1829), Richard Booth (Bolton 1825), William Woods (Haslingden 1820) and William Ridyard (Deane 1816). Nancy & Samuel Kay moved to Tottington (close) and had Kitty, Elizabeth and Alice. Nancy & Richard Booth cannot be found (1841) but there are two families with christenings in Newton Heath and Ashton (both unlikely). Nancy & William Woods stayed in Haslingden and had a large family: Thomas, Betty, Margaret (Peggy), Mary, John & Susannah. Nancy & William Ridyard had Alice (1820) and Jno (1822), christened St Peters, Bolton. Of the FOUR options, Samuel Kay is the better match as Tottington is only 1.5 miles NE of Ainsworth where "Nanny" was christened (between Bolton & Bury). Another James Mather, Married Deane, Abode Clifton, Collier. Another Nancy (or Nanny) Mather - These are DNA matches to CORY & PAUL Mather Peter Mather was not from Lancashire No DNA Matches Booth family appear related to Mather family, living in the same places (Toppings, Club Houses and Bradshaw) in Turton Possibly related via Ann Cunliffe Unconfirmed Alternative Alice Lomax marriage The 1800 Dearden mariage was witnessed by Ja's Mather (a bro-in-law) DNA matches to jfursland (15cM) DNA matches to 2 Liverpool Atkins families, but no other DNA William Booth was thought to be DNA match, but now eliminated. Other: Same Person - Possibly the wrong marriage Relative of: jfursland descended from both damilies Neighbor: In 1841, brothers William (67) and Henry (71) were neighbours at Red Bridge, Breightmet 1791 - 1830 Samuel Astley 39 39 Father was James Astley and Mother Mary Bury

22 Apr 1822, there was a Samuel Astley who married Mary Ann Simmons at Wolverhampton.  This could be him as there is a Shropshire death in 1853, aged 64.  However the 1841 census shows Samuel and Mary (45 & 40) were from Worcestershire.

Samuel died Sep 1830, aged 44 (i.e. 5 years too old), so this may not be him. Howsever, there is no other corresponding Bolton birth in 1786.
1752 - 1823 James Astley 71 71 Parents were William Astley and Isobel 1751 - 1819 Mary Bury 68 68 To marriage records on same date, so unsure if Mary Bury or Roscow, but several index records for Bury, which seems to be the correct one. 1775 - 1776 Isobel Astley 1 1 1776 John Astley 1781 William Astley William married Maria Charnock
Marriage:  16 NOV 1808   St Peter, Bolton
1779 James Astley 1784 - 1855 Nicholas Astley 71 71 1814 - 1814 Mary Astley FamilySearch.org had Samule ands Mary baptised 27 Nov 1817.  This is NOT the case.  There was no Samuel. 1816 - 1818 Maria Ann Astley 1 1 1770 - 1851 Alice Lomax 81 81 Another Alice Lomax of Bolton, daughter of James Lomax and Mary Crompton was christened 2 Apr 1775.  This other Alice married John Booth on 25 Aug 1790.

Alice was on the Little Bolton poor list in 1811 (but not 1831), living in Green Street. She would have only been 41, so this may be another.

In 1851 she was Head of household, aged 80, proprietor of land at Silverwell St, Great Bolton
1804 - 1876 Samuel Kay 72 72 In 1841, Samuel and Nancy (both 35) were at Chapel Town, Turton with John (10), Elizabeth (5) and George (3).

In 1851, Samuel and Nancy (47 & 48) were at Chapel Town, Turton with John (20), Elizabeth (16), George (12), and Ann (9)

In 1871, Samuel and Nancy (69 & 68) were at Toppings, Turton with daughter Ann (29)
1833 - 1834 Kitty Kay 1 1 Missing on 1841 & 1851 census 1834 Elizabeth Kay In 1852, Elizabeth Kay, daughter of Samuel, a Crofter from Halliwell married William Crook, a Stoker from Halliwell, son of John Crook a Wheelwright.

In 1871, Elizabeth Crook (45) was at Mill Street, Walmsley, Turton with her daughters Liley (12) and Mary (9).
1836 - 1837 Alice Kay 3m 3m Missing on 1841 & 1851 census 1831 - 1885 John Kay 54 54 In 1871, John (Wid, 40) and his 3 daughters were living at 192 Toppings next to his parents house, 193 Toppings.

In 1884, his only child that survived, married Thomas Bolton at Walmsley.  John was described as a Gentleman.  (Elizabeth had died in 1880 and Nancy died in 1885).
1838 - 1897 George Kay 59 59 In 1841, George (3) was living in Chapel Town, Turton with parents Samuel and Nancy (both 35) and John (10) and Elizabeth (5)

In 1851, George (12) was still at Chapel town, Turton

In 1861, George (22) a whister, was a Toppings, Turton (probably still Chapel Town)

After they married, George and Ann had their first three (or four including another infant) children's births registered at Royton, Oldham (near Middleton).

In 1871, George and Ann (32 & 26) were at Thornham, Royton, Oldham with two sons James (2) and John (4mo)

About 1874 the family moved to Staletbridge, Cheshire where the next 6 children's births were registered.

In 1881 George and Ann (42 & 35) were at Stsyley, Tintwistle with James (13), John (10), Mary E (7), Patients (6), Andrew (5), Samuel (9 mo) and niece Ann Mather (16) from Turton.

About 1884 they may have moved again to Dukinfield (nearby) where Elize Ann and Annie's births were registered.

In 1891, George and Ann (52 & 46) were at Harwood with James (22), John (20), Mary E (17), Patience (16), Andrew (15), Samuel (10), George (8) and Annie (5).
1842 - 1891 Ann Kay 49 49 Ann may have married Janes Turner, and had a daughter Alice A, who was 9 in 1871, and staying with grandparents Samuel and Nancy.

In 1881, Ann Kay (39, single) was with her mother Nancy (78), at 161 Toppings Road, Turton.

Ann died a spinster 23 May 1891 at 398 Hardman's terrace.
1865 - 1931 Ann Crook Mather 66 66 In 1880, Ann was baptised at Millbrook St James, Cheshire. She was about 15 years old.

In 1881, Ann Mather (16, niece), born Turton, Lancashire was with her uncle and aunt Georeg and Ann Kay. Her father Charles was a Railway Points Man at Droylsden and mother Betty had died in 1877.

NOTE: It is not likely for Ann to be a niece of George Kay and Ann Rhodes.  She must be a niece or great niece of George's mother Nancy Kay nee Mather.

In 1901, Ann (23) was living with her older sister Mary (43) and brother Joseph (42) at Droylsden, Lancashire.

In 1902, Ann Crooke Mather married John Horrocks Bentley (1871-1929), a farmer. They had no children.

In 1911, John and Ann Bentley (39 & 45) were at Holden Farm, Egerton with sister Mary (53) and brother Joseph (52)

In 1921, Ann Crook Bintley (63) and her husband John Horrocks Bintley were farmers at Bolton with her Brother Joseph Mather (63, Cow Man) and John's cousin Rachel Howarth (85). They also had a servant William Green (54, Horse man)
1824 - 1850 Alice Booth 25 25 Alice Booth died in Little Boltob, aged 25.  The same year, a boys birth was registered (unnamed) with no father shown, so it's possible Alice died in childbirth, having an illitimate son. 1829 John Booth John never married.  The John Booth b~1832 a painter who married Margaret Emmett in Jan 1851 was the son of Peter Booth.

In 1841, John (12) and sister Alice (16) were at Back Cross St, Little Bolton with their father Richard Booth (37)

In 1846, John Booth, aged 17 years, was transported for 10 years for Larceny.

In 1861 John Booth; 32; lodger; unmarried, is a House Painter in Chanthem Court East Bolton.  His cousin, also John Booth (son of Peter) was also a house painter.

After 1837 marriages show ages and father's name, so it is apparent that John never married.

In 1881 John was 54, sill single, a general labourer at Bk Rothwell Street, E Bolton.
1813 Elizabeth Booth Elizabeth Longworth (37, born Bury) was in Hulme in 1851, married to Simon Longworth, a silk weaver with her mother Catherine (86)

Father is John..  John and Sarah had Elizabeth baptised 1815.  Is this the same person?
1799 - 1838 Nanny (Nancy) Mather 39 39 Should Nanny be Nancy or Annie?

Dont confuse this Nanny with the Nanny Mather who married Samuel Astle.  The records show that the Nanny who married Samuel Astley was born about 1792 and died 1819.

There ia another Nancy Mather, born 31 May 1799 dau of James and Sally, who died an infant.

There's a Nancy Mather who married William Woods in Haslingden, 31-Dec-1820. This is also another, the daughter of Betty Mather, born 1799 in Haslingden.

The Nancy Mather who married Samuel Kay was born 1803 (from 1851 and 1861 census)
1766 - 1840 John Booth 74 74 The John from Middleton who was a shopkeeper in 1841 and 1851 was born about 1775 is another.  Our John must have been born about 1771 (or earlier) as he married Alice Lomax in 1790. The other John Booth (with Alice), shopkeeper and grocer died in Middleton in 1857, aged 81.

John was a Whister (bleacher or whitener) when he married Alice Lomax. His son Peter was also a Bleacher.

After they were married, John and Alice lived at Breightmet for 3 or 4 years, and had Josiah and Elizabeth baptised at Christ Church, Ainsworth.  Later baptisms were at St. Peter's, Bolton and they lived at Little Bolton.

Between 1947 and 1951 (about 150 years after their birth), John and Alice became Mormons and had their children John and later Baptised and Endowed as members of the Church of LDS (see attached). How can this be?

1801 Robert Booth There is another Robert, son of Josiah and Mary, born Apr 1802

25 June 1820 Robert (a spinner) may have married Mary Knowles. Another possibility is Mary Fogg, 11 Oct 1828.  It is possibly the same Robert, as a spinner in both cases.
1806 - 1807 James Booth 1 1 James (44), a warper of silk was at No 4 Long Street, Middleton in 1851, with both his parents shop keepers at No.5 1808 Alice Booth The Alice Booth that married Parker Robinson 26 Dec 1831, in Colne< Lancashire was most probably the daughter of Lawrence and Nancy Booth of Colne, born 11 July 1805. 1797 - 1872 Peter Booth 75 75 In 1816, Peter Booth was a Whister & bachelor when he married Mary Bond.

In 1834, Peter is listed as a crofter when Ellen is baptised

In 1841, Peter and Mary (both 45) were living at Hulme Street, Little Bolton.  Peter was a bleacher. They had James (20), Robert (16), John (13), Mary (6) and Ellen Booth (5)

In 1851, Peter and Mary (both 54) ware at 21 Chapel Street, Little Bol;ton (with no children).  Peter is a Whitelimer Masher.

18 Oct 1852, a Peter Booth, Widower of Breightmet, son of John Booth married Sarah Twist.  This is another Sarah as both Peter and his father were painters.

6 March 1859, Peter Booth, Bleacher & Widower of Little Bolton married Sarah Knowles, spinster.

In 1861, Peter and Sarah (64 & 41) are at 54 Lark Street, Little Bolton with two step-sons, Samuel and Thomas Knowles (15 & 9).

In 1871, Peter and Sarah (77 & 55) still had Thomas (17) with them at 54 Lark Street.
1795 John Booth 1798 - 1851 Mary Bond 53 53 1821 James Booth 1824 Robert Booth 6 Jan 1840, Robert Booth, possibly another, (aged 17) was aquitted of larceny.

In 1841, Robert Booth, possibly another, (aged 17) was aquitted of larceny.
1827 John Booth 13 Jan 1851 John, son of Peter Booth married Margaret Emmett.  However, John was a miner, a Painter, yet in April 1851 he is 22.

In 1851, John and Margaret (22 & 20) are at Haigh Street, Litle Bolton in a room  in the home of Johnathan and Mary Emmett (Margaret's parents).  Their 2mo son is Robert (but registered as Peter).

In 1861, John (31, House Painter) and Margaret (31) were at 52 Lark Street, Little Bolton with Jonathan (8) and Mary Jane (2). John Westhead (28) and Ann Emmett (24, sister-in-law?) were lodgers.  His father was at 54 Lark Street.
1835 - 1914 Mary Booth 79 79 1835 - 1842 Ellen Booth 7 7 1791 Josiah Booth Josiah married Alice and had a son James in 1815.  He was a Whister (like his father). 1792 Elizabeth Booth 1763 - 1834 James Booth 71 71 1765 - 1841 Rachael Horrocks 76 76 Rachel Booth (75) was with Henry & Margaret Horrock in 1841, probable her nephew. 1791 Lawrence Booth 1787 Mary Booth 1793 Elizabeth Booth 1795 James Booth 1790 Martha Booth 1788 - 1788 John Booth 1736 - 1830 Thomas Booth 94 94 NOTE: There is also Peter Booth who married Catherine Haslam (widow) in 1762, also from Breightmet, so are likely brothers. Father may be Peter Booth from Ainsworth (TBC).

As well as the 7 children shown here, there may also be George Booth, born Elton and baptised Buty in 1765. This fits the gap well, and no mother is named on these Bury baptism records. However, there are other baptism records for other children, so probably not!
1736 - 1810 Catherine (Kat) Holt 74 74 1777 Isaac Booth In 1836, Isaac Booth had house and land at East Breightmet Hill

In 1839, Isaac's son William Booth died (aged 19) and 2 weeks lateer his wife Nancy Booth died (aged 42).

In 1841, Isaac (60) independent, was living at New Lane, Breightmet with Martha Greenhalgh (80) and James Wittle (9)
1773 William Booth In 1841, brothers William & Betty (67 & 66) and Henry (71) were neighbours at Red Bridge, Breightmet 1775 Mary Booth 1807 - 1880 Ann Cunliffe 73 73 In 1851, Ann (43) was married to Richard Booth (60), living at 4 Club Houses, Turton with 7 children. 1832 Yates Booth In 1841, Yates Booth was at Toppings, Turton

In 1851, Yates (17) was with parents Richard and Ann (60 & 43) and his younger siblings at 4 Club Houses, Turton.

In 1859, Yates Booth (25) from Walmsey, the son of Richard Booth, a labourer married Mary Garstang from Astley Bridge.  They had a son James in 1861.

In 1871, Yates and Mary (37 & 34) are at Sharples with 2 children

In 1901, Yates was an inmate at Farnworth Workhouse.
1836 Ann Booth In 1841, Ann Booth was aged 5 at Toppings, Turton.

In 1851, Ann was 15, born Turton.

On 2 April 1859, Ann (23, dau of Richard from Turton) married William Coop.
1838 Elizabeth Booth 1840 Alice Booth 1847 George Booth 1849 Sarah Booth
Sarah's mother Ann died in 1881 at Toppings.  In 1881, Sarah was still unmarried at 34 Toppings Road, Turton.

On 17 Apr 1881, Sarah Booth married Eli Openshaw
1823 William Booth In 1841, William Booth (20) was at Toppings, Turton with his father Richard Booth (45) and (Step-mother) Ann (30). 1827 Daniel Booth In 1841, Daniel Booth (15) was at Toppings, Turton with his father Richard Booth (45) and (Step-mother) Ann (30).

The Daniel Booth, b.1829, son of Richard and Rachel Booth (at Bridge Street, L.B. in 1841 and 1851) is another family.

In 1869, Daniel was a widow when he married Prudence Howarth.  His father was Rihcard Booth, a spinner.

In 1871, Daniel and Prudence (42 & 36) were at 73 Hampton Street, Little Bolton with Walter (7) and Lily (3 mo)
1828 Robert Booth In 1841, Robert Booth (15) was at Toppings, Turton with his father Richard Booth (45) and (Step-mother) Ann (30).

On 21 April 1851 Robert of Turton (a gardener), son of Richard of Turton (also a gardener), married Emma Boardman.
1831 Richard Booth In 1841, Richard Booth (10) was at Toppings, Turton with his father Richard Booth (45) and mother (or possibly step-mother) Ann (30).  Richard was listed out of order below the other family on the 1841 census, so may be a step-son (i.e. son of Ann before she married). 1837 - 1839 Peter Booth 2 2 1793 - 1851 Peter Mather 58 58 In 1841, Peter Mather (indexed as Mather Peter, no occupation given) was 49, living at Back Cross Street, Little Bolton with Ann (25), John (23) and Elizabeth (6 mo).  Peter was NOT from Lancashire, although the others were.

There was a Peter and Sarah Mather from Prescot who had Ann baptised in 1818.  He was a hairdresser.  However, there was no John, so it is more likely Sarah is the mother John's baby Elizabeth.

NOTE: There is another Peter Mather of Church Street, Radcliffe, of similar age.  That Peter was an Organist in 1841.
<unknown> 1815 Ann Mather In 1841, Ann (25) and John (23) were with their assumed father Pater Mather at Back Cross Street, Little Bolton. 1817 John Mather In 1841, Ann (25) and John (23) were with their assumed father Pater Mather at Back Cross Street, Little Bolton. 1840 Elizabeth Mather "Elizabeth Peter" (i.e. Elizabeth Mather) was 6 mo on the June 1841 census with Peter Mather (49), Ann (25), John (23), but no mother.

There are two birth registrations (for Little Bolton), 1840 (Mother also Mather, so probably Base child of Ann), and another in 1841 (the daughter of Joshua Mather and Elizabeth KAY).
1846 - 1846 Ellen Booth 1845 - 1847 Mary Booth 2 2 1835 Prudence Howarth 1791 - 1868 Richard Booth 77 77 In 1841, Richard and Ann (45 & 30) are at Toppings, Turton with William, Daniel and Robert (20, 15 & 15) from his first marriage and also Yates (7), Ann (5), Elizabeth (2) and Alice (1).  There was also Richard Booth (10) possibly a stepson (?)

In 1851, Richard Booth and Ann (60 & 43) are at Club Houses, Turton with Richard (20), Yates (17), Ann (15), Elizabeth (12), Alice (10), George (3) and Sarah (2).

Also in 1851, Richard and Rachel Booth (both 42), have Daniel (22), Robert (10) and Betsy (15). Richard is a Salt Dealer, so this may be another family (unless Richard Booth was a biggamist as both families appear combined in 1841).

In 1861, Richard and Ann (71 & 53) were at Highfield Terrace, Turton and had Richard (30), Alice (20) and Sarah (12).
