Sarah's father was James Schofield and her mother was Mary Horrocks. Her maternal grandparents were John Horrocks and Nancy Mather. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Adam, John, Thomas, Betty, Ellen, Margaret and Nancy. She was the youngest of the eight children. She died at 3 months old in September 1849 in Little Bolton.²
