Alice was born in March 1844 in Heaton by Bolton.1  Alice's father was Robert Greenhalgh and her mother was Alice Duxbury. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Jane, William, Ann, Mary and Catherine.  She was the third youngest of the six known children.
