Richard was born in 1826 in Harwood and his baptism took place on March 5th, 1826 in Walmersley.1  Richard's father was John Greenhalgh and his mother was Hannah (Ann) Bridge. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Ellis, Stephen, John, Hannah, Leah and Susan.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
