Mary was born on April 11th, 1816 in Turton and her baptism took place on April 30th, 1816 at Turton Chapel conducted by J Wood.1  Mary's father was John Walmsley and her mother was Alice Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Ann Howarth. She had a brother and two sisters, named James, Ann and Sarah.  She was the second youngest of the four known children.
