Robert's father was John Snelson and his mother was Betty Walmsley.  His maternal grandparents were John Walmsley and Betty. He had two brothers named Thomas and John.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had a half-sister named Eliza.  He died at 8 months old in January 1851 in Bolton.  He was buried on January 19th, 1851 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
