Albert, known as Ab, was born on August 25th, 1904 in Tranmere.1  Ab's father was John Mather and his mother was Sarah Stocks.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph (Joe) Mather and Ellen Tomlinson; his maternal grandparents were Albert Stocks and Jane Smith. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Joe, Jack, Wal, Nellie, No, Jess and Lean.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died from cancer at the age of 74 on August 16th, 1979 in Birkenhead.  He was cremated on August 21st, 1979 at the Landican Cemetery.2 2
