Daniel's father was Jonathan Crosland and his mother was Betty Liversidge. His paternal grandparents were John Crosland Jnr and Hanah Breadly. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Charles, Sarah, Mary and Martha. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 71 in December 1840 in Huddersfield.²

- WARNING: There is another Dan Crsoland and Mary (Wagstaff) family at Kirkburton.
  
  Only sure of father being Jonathan. By matching all Jonathan Croslands, it is probable that the mother was Betty Liversedge, in which case there are three more sons.
  
  Daniel may have been a property owner, as there is rate collected for Netherthong from Godfry Berry (1798, 1807, 1820) and Francis Vickerman (1823, 1825).
