Charles was born in May 1778 in Berry Brow and his baptism took place on May 20th, 1778 in Highfield (Independent).1  Charles' father was Jonathan Crosland and his mother was Betty Liversidge.  His paternal grandparents were John Crosland Jnr and Hanah Breadly. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Daniel, James, John, Sarah, Mary and Martha.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
