Martha was born in March 1771 in Berry Brow and her baptism took place on April 14th, 1771 in Holmfirth.1  Martha's father was Jonathan Crosland and her mother was Betty Liversidge.  Her paternal grandparents were John Crosland Jnr and Hanah Breadly. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Daniel, James, John, Charles, Sarah and Mary.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
