John's father was John Crosland Snr and his mother was Anne Royd. He had four brothers and three sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Charles, Joseph, Luke, Titus, Sarah, Alice, Hellen and <child>.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 39 in April 1753 in Butternab.  He was buried on April 21st, 1753 in Almondbury.^1 1
