Jonathan Crosland

Jonathan was born in August 1739 in Butternab and his christening took place on August 16th, 1739 in Honley.¹

Jonathan's father was John Crosland Jnr and his mother was Hanah Breadly. His paternal grandparents were John Crosland Snr and Anne Royd. He had three brothers named William, Joseph and Thomas. He was the third oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers named James, Stephen and Charles. He died at the age of 78 in September 1817 in Berry Brow. His burial was in September 1817 in Holmfirth.²²

Death Notes
- The 24 May 1774 burial of Johnathan son of John Crosland of Holme, Clothier must be another. This record shows that Jonathan is a son so not a married man. Also, there are baptism records beyond 1775 for John and Charles

General Notes
- 7 June 1764, Jonathan Crosland of Butternab married Betty Liversedge of Dungeon. Butternam is the Southern end of Beaumont Park (called Dungeon Wood on the 1854 OS map), so they lived very nearby along the Beaumont Park Road. Dungeon Wood Bottoms lies next to Dog Hall and further North are Dungeon Grove and Dungeon Cottages. The Dungeon Turnpike is now the B6108 Meltham Road.
  
  1765-1771, the births were recorded at Almondbury with mother Betty.
  
  1773-1775, James and John were baptised at Huddersfield with mother "Elizabeth". (There was no other marriage between Jonathan Crosland and a Betty or Elizabeth until 1791).
