Jonathan was born in August 1739 in Butternab and his christening took place on August 16th, 1739 in Honley.1  Jonathan's father was John Crosland Jnr and his mother was Hanah Breadly.  His paternal grandparents were John Crosland Snr and Anne Royd. He had three brothers named William, Joseph and Thomas.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had three half-brothers named James, Stephen and Charles.  He died at the age of 78 in September 1817 in Berry Brow.  He was buried in September 1817 in Holmfirth.2 2

‌Jonathan and Betty were married in a religious ceremony on June 7th, 1764 in Almondbury by Vicar Edward Rishton and witnessed by William Cresham & Joseph Crossland.4  They had four sons and three daughters, named Daniel, James, John, Charles, Sarah, Mary and Martha.  There are no more children.
