James Roberts

James was born in 1757 at Colne and his baptism took place on January 23rd, 1757 at St. Bartholomew's (Colne).¹

- There are two James Roberts born in Colne, one son of James and the other son of Richard. We can tell which one married Luce, because both James, and his father are both recorded as Hatters.

James' father was James Roberts and his mother was <unknown>. He died at the age of 63 in October 1820 at Colne. His burial was on October 25th, 1820 at St. Bartholomew's (Colne).²

Death Notes
- There are two buriels, both with a good match. Lucy died at Foulridge, and assuming there are not two Lucy Roberts married to James, then the record below must be correct. Also the age at death of 63 matches perfectly.

  This is abother obvious match as the family moved to Oxnards in 1794, and Henry and Will were born at Oxnards. However he is 3 years too old to be the huband of Luce. Therefore this must be another.

General Notes
- James Roberts was from the the Parish of Thornton, Yorkshire.
  
  The abode for the childrens baptisms was Noyna or Noonhow, which is probably a house at Foulridge. Today there is Noyna Road, Avenue and view, all between Colne and Foulridge, a 15 min walk from the Church.

Occupation Details
- From before 1793 to after 1798 James' occupation was Hatter at Colne.
  - Occupation Notes
    - About 1793, the fathers occupation was also recorded with baptisms. This shows James is a Hatter (but not mad !).

Social & Emotional Relationships
- James was an acquaintance of David Pickles.
  - Relationship Notes
    - Davids son Michael was a Hatter at Foulridge, so David and James (also a Hatter) were probably close friends.
