William was born in September 1783 in Allerton and his baptism took place on November 2nd, 1783 in Bingley conducted by Reverend Mr Lillie.¹²

William's father was Isaac Smith and his mother was Elizabeth Skirrow. His paternal grandparents were William Smith and Mary Wilkinson; his maternal grandparents were Holdroyd (Oldroyd) Skirrow and Ann Jennings. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Mary. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 38 in February 1822 in Allerton. His burial was on February 8th, 1822 in Bingley.³⁴

- Son Henry's christening records the parents as "Son of the late William and Jane Smith", so William must have died between Aug-1821 and June-1822
