In 1841 Elizabeth (12), Jane (11). and Lydia (5) are with their brothers and parents James (a coal miner) and Ann at Garston, near Hinderton and Little Neston.  This 1841 census is missing from Ancestry.

In 1851, Lydia was "Schoolmaster's Daughter" living with her parents

In 1861, Little Neston with her Mother Ann Woodward and her 3m old baby daughter (Lydia). Next door was her brother John (and Pricilla) Woodward.

1826 - 1902 Richard Timmis 75 75 Richard Timmis and Lydia Woodward are my 2x great grandparents.

In 1841, "Richard Timmis Jnr" (15) was living at Copperas Hill,  Islington, Liverpool (the road beside the Adelphi Hotel) with his father Richard (58) and two sisters. Also present was James Bringam (15, a plasterer).

In the 1840s, Richard and James Bringam, living together at Copperas Hill, probably also worked together as plasterers.

In January 1859, when they married, they were living in Cornwallis St.

In 1855, Richard was living at Field Street, Liverpool.

In 1871, Richard (45) was head of house with his sister Jane (50) and brother Charles (41) at Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

In 1881, Richard was living in Liverpool Road, Great Neston, Cheshire (without daughter)
1804 - 1852 James Woodward 48 48 In 1836, James Woodward was a coal miner at Gorston near Neston occupying three plots of land (180 with house, 183, 184)

In 1841, James (35, a coal miner) and Ann (40) were at Gorston, Little Neston.  There were not from Cheshire.  His neighbour was Thomas and Elizabeth Lee, a farmer.  They were still there in 1851 where James is now a Schoolmaster.

On another 1841 census, another (or the same) James Woodward (47) and Jane Woodward (50) were School master and mistress in Neston, together with Henry Woodward (20, Professor of Music), both from Cheshire.  They were iving at Meadow Cottages, Neston, adjacent to the Liverpool Road.

James and Ann were living in Little Neston in 1871 with John and Lydia (both unmarried) and grandson James (age 3).

James tought the "Young Ideas" at the National School (Chester Observer Article 14-5-1887).

Another James Woodward (b.1894) was a banker, charged with fraud from a bank in Neston, Wirral.
1861 - 1937 Ellen Ann Timmis 76 76 Ellen Judge is my Grandmother's (Elsie Brereton) Aunt.

Living in Little Neston in 1861 with Grandmother (Ann Woodward) and Mother and Father, aged 3 months.

Servant (domestic cook) for Susanna Kelly (Irish) and family at 4 Egerton Park, Tranmere, Cheshire, England in 1881.  Her younger sister Mary was next door at No. 2.

Aged 49 in 1911, living in Birkenhead.

Ellen Ann Timmis, was born in Neston where she lived until the time of her marriage. Mr and Mrs Judge have lived in Rock Ferry and Birkenhead. They are members of St Michaels Church.

Priscilla must have been quite a girl. Jane Woodward named a daughter after her, and from then on it became a reoccuring family name.

In 1861, John (34) and Priscilla (32) were at Little Neston with Richard's mother Ann (56) and Richard and Lydia Timmis.
1862 - 1951 Mary (Jinnie) Jane Timmis 88 88 In 1881, Mary Jane was working as a domestic servant at 2 Egerton Park, Tranmere, Birkenhead.  Her sister Ellen was next door at No. 4

In 1901, Mary Jane (39), was still single and with her mother Lydia Timmis.

In 1911, she was still in Birkenhead, living alone (no other TIMMIS family members present) aged 48.

In 1939 the Judge family (Willie, Nellie, Lillie, May and Mary J Timmis) were at 6 Woodcroft Lane, Bebington.  Mary aged about 76 was incapacitated.

4 April 1847, Joseph Woodward a shoe maker, son of James (also a shoe maker) married Maria Wynne daughter of James Wynne at Liverpool, St Peter.

In 1851, Joseph is described as a shoemaker.  He became a post messenger in 1854 and was a postman until he died in 1890.

In 1861, Joseph and Maria (36 & 37) were living on the Liverpool Road, Neston.  Joseph was a Rural Post Office Messenger.

In 1871, Joseph continued to make shoes and boots, being described as a "letter carrier and boot maker".

Joseph was a Druid.  For 25 years he acted in the capacity as secretary to the Neston Lodge of the Ancient Order of Druids.

In his obituary, he was described as an old Nestonian, having served the public in various capacities, stopping work in 1886 due to Ill health.
1831 - 1900 Jane Woodward 69 69 Jane was born 10 April 1831 and baptised on the 17th April, the daughter of James Woodward, a labourer and Ann Williams (nee Woodward). This is an error and should be mother Ann Woodward formerly Ann Williams (see sister Ann's baptism).

In 1851, Elizabeth is a House Maid at Parkgate (born Garston). 

In 1861 Elizabeth is a House Servant in at 8 Roscommon Street, Everton.

13 Feb 1863 Elizabeth Woodward died, aged 58, and was buried on the 17th at St Mary's Cemetery.  Her parents were James and Elizabeth (i.e. not Ann).

Ann died aged 2 and was buried 19 Aug 1835  at Neston

1824 - 1907 Maria Wynne 83 83 Maria's parents were Maria and James Wynne (from Greenfield, Flintshire, Wales).  Cheshire birth registers used spellings of WYNNE, WINNE and WYNN for their children's births.

In 1841, Maria was a F.S. for Thomas and Sarah Cottingham, aged 17 at a Cottage in Little Neston.

By 1851, Joseph, a shoe maker, and Maria had moved to Brimstage, Wirral.

In 1861, Joseph and Maria (36 & 37) were living on the Liverpool Road, Neston.  Joseph was a Rural Post Office Messenger.
1847 - 1928 James Woodward 80 80 James described as a Shoemakers son, aged 3, grandson of James Woodward in 1851, living at Brimstage, Wirral.

In 1871, James Woodward, 23, unmarried was a paper hanger and decorator, boarding at 8 Claughton Road, Birkenhead.

In 1871, James married Mary Charmley at Chester (civil marriage) and had two sons Edmund and Reginald.

In 1911, James (63) was a retired house painter living with his son and wife Reginald James and Jne Woodward at Beeston Moss.

James died in 1928.  James and Mary with children Ruth (1mo) and Edmund are buried together at Saughall by Chester
1852 Anne (Annie) Woodward In 1861, Annie (9, born Brimstage) was with her parents at Neston.

In 1871, Annie (20) was a servant (domestic nurse) at Church Street, Neston.

In 1881, Annie (29) was back with her parents Joseph and Maria at Neston, with George (15) and Lucy Wynne (2).

Annie married William Young and had a son Joseph W Young, born 1895.

In 1901, William and Annioe Young (40 & 49) and their son Joseph W (6) were living at Annie's mothers at Bridge Street, Neston 
1865 - 1949 George Woodward 84 84 In 1888, George married Emma Fletcher (1867-1948) and had three children, Lily, George and Edith. 1783 - 1810 Joseph Woodworth (Woodward) 26 26 1873, Joseph son of Joseph Woodworth a labourer of Little Neston was born and baptised at Neston.

11 Nov 1805, when Joseph Woodward (also known as Woodworth) married he was a Cooper in Liverpool.  Joseph married Elizabeth Tomkins after his first son James was born in Liverpool in 1804.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Tomkins, labourer of Old Dock Quay.

3 Sep 1806, Joseph and Elizabeth had a son John Woodward while still living at Dockside, Liverpool.  Also when son James was baptised and on his marriage record he is recorded as a Cooper, living at the Dock Side, Liverpool.

Sometime after 1806, Joseph joined the Navy where he continued his trade of coopering in the Navy. 

Joseph served on HMS Snap and was in service there when he died.  "Joseph Woodward, cooper, husband of Elizabeth Woodward of Liverpool. Discharged Dead 1 Jan 1810 at St Thomas".  Joseph "Departed this life Joseph Woodward. Employed as necessary to commit the remains of the deceased to the deep".

In 1841 John (35, a labourer) and Mary (30) were with their children Ellen (10), Daniel (8), John (6) and James (1) at St. John's Village, Islington, Liverpool.

In 1841, Another John and Mary Woodward (both 35) are living in an Irish area of Liverpool.  Wife Mary was Irish!  They had no children.

In 1851, James was a labourer in Toxteth Park.  He had Ellen (21), James (10), Catherine (8) and Elizabeth (6).  Michael Stoker (21) was a visitor (visiting his daughter Ellen). William, a Joiner and Ellen Jones (both 52) were lodgers from Wales, probably related.

In 1861, John (56) was living with Michael Stoker, his son-in-law and Ellen (both 32), so Ellen must have been his daughter, born 1829.

Before John died at Neston in 1871 he was in the Toxteth Park Workhouse, Liverpool in 1871, a pauper, widower  and Ag. Labourer.

A peculiar accident occurred at the Cadeby Pit on Saturday resulting in the death of Joseph Millington (32) miner, of 53 New Balby Street, Conisbro.   He was assisting in the timbering of a roadway when a fall occurred pinning him with his head and chest on the top of some timber where he hung.  He was dead before he could be released."

Douglas married Yvonne Hazell Paginton from Newport and they had 4 daughters (including Alwyn) and a son.  Their daughter Alwyn Pumford has a good DNA match (20.9 cM) to me, and a shared match to Alice-Marie McFarland (26 cM).

In 1851 James a School Master and Jane (57 & 69) were at Meadow Cottage with Mary Nevett (50), a visitor.  James a master mariner and Isabella Seddon (45 & 46) and family were also living at Meadow Cottage.

In 1864, James Woodward (aged about 70) who was an actuary for the Neston Savings Bank was charged with forgery, embezzling £3000 from the Bank.  The courthouse was packed with customers of the bank concerned about their savings.  James was a short man, well dressed with a grey beard.  £200 had been credited to his nephew Joseph Woodward, a Gardener of Neston.  His wife (Jane) aged 84 was still living and his only son (Henry) was a clergyman.
James was convicted and sentances to 5 years penal servitude at Chester assizes..

1781 - 1865 Jane Downward 84 84 Jane Downward was the daughter of Thomas and Hannah Downward and was baptized in Neston on 6th May 1781. Her father was a ropemaker.

Anne Schroeder (1787-1866) lived with her husband Samuel in Leighton Road, Neston and continued to live there after he died in 1853 at the age of 85. One of the executors named in Samuel’s will was James Woodward, secretary of the Society and husband of founder member "Jane Downward".

Henry eventually became a vicar and was a curate in Wigan before moving to a parish in Lambeth, Surrey in the 1860s.

When she married, Mary recorded her father as William Grace, miner and was living at 13 Hawkinson Street, Wavertree.  It could be her father was a William and a grocer, not a miner, who died soon after her parents married.

In April 1861, Mary Grace (5, daughter) was with mother  Ann and step-father William Bolshaw (a grocer's assistant).  They had just married 10th February and were living at Highfield Road, West Derby.

Ann and new husband John Potter were still there in 1864 when son James was born.

The marriage didnt last long.  William Bolshaw died in 1862 and Ann remarried the following year.

In 1883, Mary maried William Gore.  Mary's father was William Grace, a miner.
