Thomas' father was John Timmis and his mother was Sarah Moore.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Timmis and Mary Hall. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Richard, George, Mary, Rhoda, Sarah, Mary and Jemima.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
