Richard's father was John Timmis and his mother was Sarah Moore.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Timmis and Mary Hall. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, George, Mary, Rhoda, Sarah, Mary and Jemima.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.
