Mary's father was John Timmis and her mother was Sarah Moore.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Timmis and Mary Hall. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Richard, George, Rhoda, Sarah, Mary and Jemima.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
