Gertrude's father was Thomas Prescott and her mother was Mary (Maria) Teresa Baron. Her maternal grandparents were Edward Baron and Ellen (Ellenor) Timmis. She had two brothers and a sister, named Edward, Thomas and Mary. She was the youngest of the four children.
