Edward's father was Thomas Prescott and his mother was Mary (Maria) Teresa Baron. His maternal grandparents were Edward Baron and Ellen (Ellenor) Timmis. He had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Mary and Gertrude. He was the oldest of the four children.
