Sarah was born in 1897 in Whitby (Ellesmere Port).1  Sarah's father was George Timmis and her mother was Sarah Jones. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, George, James, Thomas, Polly, Elizabeth, Martha and Elsie.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine known children.
