William's father was Thomas Timmis and his mother was Martha Woodcock.  His paternal grandparents were John Timmis and Mary Walley. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Thomas, Job, George, Elizabeth, Martha, Ellen and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 70 in 1873 in Nantwich.²
