George was called “Teapot George” in the family because of the enormous teapot he was given (and which was used to serve teas) on his 21st birthday.  The Teapot was handed down to Dorothy Ann Brereton, who now has it in her dining room.

In 1871, George was living in Birkenhead with family (aged 10).

In 1881, George (aged 20) was visiting Mary Ann Griffiths (his brother Richard's sister-in-law) at the Nags Head Inn, Dutton Cacca, Denbighshire. His occupation was Cook on Sea.  In 1887 he was registered as 2nd Cook (under the chief cook) on the Liguria, sailing from Tilbury.

In 1885, George "ship's cook" married Mary Batho.

George and Mary are at 78 Haydock St, Newton-in-Makerfield in 1911 (see family picture).  NEWTON-IN-MACKERFIELD is a town, parish and sub-district of Warrington, Lancashire.
