Thomas was born in January 1867 in Birkenhead and his baptism took place there on January 20th, 1867.1 2  Thomas' father was Samuel Sherlock and his mother was Lydia Eddowes.  His maternal grandparents were John Eddowes and Mary Whitfield. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, Henry, Richard, Lydia, Mary, Alice and Adeline. He had an adopted brother named John.  He died at the age of 71 in September 1938 in Birkenhead.3
