Lydia was born in 1841, soon after the family had moved from Holt to Wrexham.
In 1851, Lydia was 10, living at the Beast Market, Wrexham with parents John and Mary and 6 siblings. She married Samuel Sherlock, a railway porter, in Liverpool in 1868 when aged 18. They lived in Birkenhead for several years before moving to Toxteth Park.
