John was born in May 1838 in Holt and his christening took place there on July 18th, 1838.¹²

  According to the burial records, John was 51 when he died, so was born after April 1838.

John's father was John Eddowes and his mother was Mary Whitfield. His paternal grandparents were John Eddowes and Elizabeth Jones; his maternal grandparents were John Whitfield and Mary Tomlinson. He had five brothers and five sisters, named George, Edwin, Thomas, William, Matthew, Elizabeth, Mary, Esther, Mary and Lydia. He died at the age of 51 in April 1890 in Tranmere. His burial was on April 28th, 1890 at the Flaybrick Memorial Gardens.³⁴

- Thomas and John were twins, born at Common Wood, sons of John and Mary Eddowes, farmer
  
  Marriage recorded as John EDDOWS, so hard to find.
  21 Jun 1859 John Eddows, labourer of Birkenhead (21,X) son of John a farmer married Phoebe Parry (19) of Peckforton at Bunbury. Witnesses were Elizabeth Dodd, Samuel Dutton, John Ledsham & William Spencer.
  
  It appears from the 1871 census, his full name was George John Eddowes, but George was never used.
  
  John had a cousin Samuel Dutton with him in 1861. Phoebe's mother was Martha Dutton, so presumably Samuel was really Phoebe's cousin.

- John's occupation was Team Owner in Birkenhead. He died in April 1890 while still employed there.

    - John had a cousin Samuel Dutton with him in 1861. Phoebe's mother was Martha Dutton, so presumably Samuel was really Phoebe's cousin.
      Also, Samuel Dutton was a marriage witness in 1859.
  John was a relative of Mary Ann Eddowes.

    - Mary Ellan Eddowes was John's older sister, and head of family after their parents died..
      After John and his wife died young, Mary Ann's family looked after John's younger children.
