John's father was George Eddowes and his mother was Martha Hughes. His paternal grandparents were George Eddowes and Mary Jones. He had a brother and a sister, named Matthew and Mary. He was the youngest of the three children.

General Notes
- John Eddowes, botn 1877, was the son of EDDOWES and HUGHES. There is only one matching birth (registered in Birkenhead). Although the "father" is Hughes, he may be the illegitimate son of Thomas Crowston who his mother Martha was living with in 1881.
