Joan was born in 1272 in Akko, Hazafon, Israel.  Joan's father was King Edward ("Longshanks") Plantagenet I of England and her mother was Princess Eleanor of Castile.  Her paternal grandparents were King Henry Plantagenet III of England and Queen Eleanor Berenger of Provence; her maternal grandparents were King Ferdinand ("the Saint") III of Castile & Läeon and Joan Dammartin. She had a brother and two sisters, named Edward, Eleanor and Elizabeth.  She was the second oldest of the four children. She had two half-brothers named "of Brotherton" and "of Woodstock".  She died at the age of 35 on April 23rd, 1307 in Clare, Suffolk, England.  She was buried on April 26th, 1307 in Austin Friars' Church, Clare, Suffolk, England.

‌Joan and Ralph were married in a religious ceremony in Akko, Hazafon, Israel.  They had a son named Thomas.


Joan's second family with Earl Gilbert de Clare of Hertford, Gloucester & Clare

They had three daughters named Margaret, Alianore and Elizabeth.
