Ferdinand, known as "the Saint", was born on August 5th, 1201 in Lâeon, Lâeon, Spain.  "the Saint"'s father was King Alfonso Fernandez IX of Leon and his mother was Queen Berengaria of Castile.  His paternal grandparents were King Ferdinand Alfonsez II of Leon and Princess Uracca Alfonsez of Portugal; his maternal grandparents were King Alfonso ("the Noble") VIII of Castile and Princess Eleanor Plantagenet. He had two brothers and a sister, named "the Saint", Alfonso and Berengaria. He had a half-sister named Urraca.  He died at the age of 50 on May 30th, 1252 in Sevilla, Sevilla, Spain.  He was buried in Sevilla, Sevilla, Spain.
