Raymond, known as "the Great", was born in Barcelona, Spain.  "the Great"'s father was Raymond ("Towhead") Berenger II (III) and his mother was Maud of Hauteville.  His paternal grandparents were Raymond ("the Elder", "el Viejo") Berenger I (II) and Almodis de la Haute Marche of Barcelona; his maternal grandfather was Duke Robert ("Guiscard", "the Astute") de Hauteville I of Apulia and his maternal grandmother is Princess Sichelgaita of Salerno. He had a sister named Etienette.  He died on June 19th, 1131.


"the Great"'s first family with Dulce Aldonza Milhaud

‌"the Great" and Dulce Aldonza were married in a religious ceremony on February 3rd, 1112.  They had a son and a daughter, named "the Chaste" and Berenguela.


"the Great"'s second family with Maria Rodriguez de Bivar

They had a daughter named Ximene.
