Berenguela was born about 1116 in Barcelona, Aragon.  Berenguela's father was Count Raymond ("the Great") III of Barcelona and her mother was Dulce Aldonza Milhaud.  Her paternal grandparents were Raymond ("Towhead") Berenger II (III) and Maud of Hauteville; her maternal grandfather was Gilbert Milhaud of Provence and her maternal grandmother is Gerberga of Provence. She had a brother named "the Chaste".  She was the younger of the two children. She had a half-sister named Ximene.  She died in Palencia, Lâeon.

‌Berenguela and "the Emperor", "Pierre-Raimund" were married in a religious ceremony in November 1128 in Saldana, Palencia, Spain.  They had two sons and two daughters, named "the Desired", Ferdinand, Constance and Sancha.
