Gilbert was born in 1005 in Carlat, Cantal, France. Gilbert's father was Vicomte Gilbert de Carlat I and his mother was Agnes de Mels. His paternal grandfather was Vicomte Bernard de Carlat II. He was an only child. He died at the age of 66 in 1071.General Notes
