William, known as "Longsword", "Longue Epaee", was born in Normandie, Neustria.  "Longsword", "Longue Epaee"'s father was Duke Robert Ragnvaldsson of Normandy and his mother is Poppa de Valois.  His paternal grandparents were Earl Ragnvald ("the Wise") Eysteinsson I of Orkney and Ragnhild Hrolfsdottir; his maternal grandfather was Count Pepin de Senlis I. He had a sister named Adele. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Walter, Adela, Grisele and Crispina.  He died in France.
