Ragnvald, known as "the Wise", was born about 0830 in Maer, Nord Trondelag, Norway.  "the Wise"'s father is Eystein ("the Noisy", "Glumrw") Ivarsson and his mother is Aseda Jutland.  His paternal grandparents are Ivar Halfdansson of the Uplands and Eysteinsdatter; his maternal grandfather was Ragnvald Olafsson of Agder & Jutland and his maternal grandmother is Tora Sigurdsdottir. He had a brother named Malahule.  He was the older of the two children.  He died in Orkney, Orkney Islands, Scotland.
