Matilda was born about 1125 in Savoy, France.  Matilda's father was Amadeus de Maurienne III and her mother was Maud d'Albon.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Humbert ("the Fat") de Maurienne II of Savoy and Countess Gisele of Burgundy; her maternal grandparents were Comte Guiges d'Albon III and Matilde of England. She had a brother named "le Saint".  She was the older of the two children.  She died on November 4th, 1157 in Coimbra.

‌Matilda and "the Conqueror" were married in a religious ceremony before July 1146 in hambâery, Savoie, Medieval States.  They had a son and a daughter, named Sancho and Uracca.
