William, known as "le Grand", was born in 1024 in Bourgogne, France.  "le Grand"'s father was Count Palatine Renaud de Lombardy I of Burgundy & Macon and his mother was Alice of Normandy.  His paternal grandparents were King Othon-Guillaume de Macon and Ermentrude de Roucy of Lombardy; his maternal grandparents were Duke Richard ("the Good") de Normandy II and Princess Judith of Brittany. He had a sister named Alberade.  He died in France.


"le Grand"'s family with Etienette de Longwy

‌"le Grand" and Etienette were married in a religious ceremony before 1060.  They had two sons and four daughters, named Raymond, "Tete-Hardi", Ermentrude, Gisele, Maud and Clemence.
