Matilda was born in Ringelheim, Goslar, Hannover, Germany.  Matilda's father was Count Theodoric von Ringelheim and her mother was Reginhild von Friesland.  Her paternal grandfather is Reginhart of Ringelheim and her paternal grandmother was Matilda von Saxony; her maternal grandparents were King Gottfried Haraldsson of Haithabu and Princess Gisella de Lorraine. She had a brother and three sisters, named Lambert, Frederuna, Luitgard and Amalrada. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Sigfrid, Frederuna and Amalrada.  She died on March 14th, 0968 in Memleben, Saxony.

‌Matilda and "the Fowler" were married in a religious ceremony in 0909.  They had two sons and four daughters, named "the Great", "the Quarrelsome", Oda, Hedwige, Gerberga and Gerberge Auceps.
