Louis, known as "the Pious", was born in August 0778 in Chasseneuil, France.  "the Pious"'s father was Emperor Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire and his mother was Hildegarde of Vinzgau.  His paternal grandparents were King Pepin ("the Short") III Martel and Bertrada ("the Younger/Au Grand Pied", "big foot") II of Laon; his maternal grandparents were Duke Gerold I of Swabia and Duchess Emma von Swabia of Vinzgau. He had two brothers and three sisters, named "the Younger", "the Hunchback", Rotrude, Bertha and Alpaid. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Hugo, Dhoude Liegarde and Hiltrud.  He died at the age of 61 on April 30th, 0840 in Near, Ingelheim, Rhinehessen, Hesse.  He was buried in Cathâedrale D'Aachen, Aachen, Rheinland, Prussia.


"the Pious"'s first family with Empress Irmengard of Hesbain

‌"the Pious" and Irmengard were married in a religious ceremony in 0798 in France.  They had two sons and four daughters, named Lothair, "the German", Le Germanique, Rotrud, Hildegard, Gisela and Adelheid.


"the Pious"'s second family with Princess Judith von Andechs-Bavaria

‌"the Pious" and Judith were married in a religious ceremony in February 0819 in Aix La Chapelle, Austrasia.  They had a son named "the Bald".
