Gisela was born about 0818 in Frankfurt, Hesse Nassau, Prussia.  Gisela's father was Emperor Louis ("the Pious") I of Aquitaine and her mother was Empress Irmengard of Hesbain.  Her paternal grandparents were Emperor Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire and Hildegarde of Vinzgau; her maternal grandfather is Ingram of Hasbave. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Lothair, "the German", Le Germanique, Rotrud, Hildegard and Adelheid. She had a half-brother named "the Bald".  She died on July 1st, 0876.

‌Gisela and Eberhard were married in a religious ceremony in 0836 in France.  They had three sons and four daughters, named Unruoch, Berengar, Ermenfroi, Judith, Heilwig, Helewise and Judith.
