Charlemagne was born on April 2nd, 0742 in Ingelheim, Germany.  Charlemagne's father was King Pepin ("the Short") III Martel and his mother was Bertrada ("the Younger/Au Grand Pied", "big foot") II of Laon.  His paternal grandparents were King Charles ("the Hammer") Martel of France and Chrotrud Treves; his maternal grandfather was Heribert of Laon and his maternal grandmother is Princess Bertrada de Cologne of Laon. He had two brothers and two sisters, named der Große, Carloman, Gisella and Redburh.  He died at the age of 71 on January 28th, 0814 in Aachen, Prussia.  He was buried in Notre Dame D'Aix La Chapelle, , Austrasia.


Charlemagne's first family with Hildegarde of Vinzgau

‌Charlemagne and Hildegarde were married in a religious ceremony about 0772 in Aachen, Rhineland, Prussia.  They had three sons and three daughters, named "the Younger", "the Pious", "the Hunchback", Rotrude, Bertha and Alpaid.
